D. Henriet - Bazin Rose Brut Champagne - RM. The Henriet-Bazin Rosé is 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay from a blend of 2004 and 2003 reserve wines. This rose is made by the addition of red wine. In this case by the addition of 20% old vines Pinot Noir from Verzenay. Very pale pink with fi ne beads. The nose is very fresh, alive with berry fruit. Light, delicate and pretty on the palate, with strawberries embedded in a pinpoint mousse. There’s just the lightest kiss of smoke to the finish. D&M Tasting Notes.

From the father and daughter team of Henriet-Bazin. The original Henriet family specialised in Champagne production whereas the Bazins were grape growers. They have been producing stellar wine from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards in the Montagne de Reims. Their prestigious vineyards are situated in the Grand Cru villages of Verzy and Verzenay renowned for the excellence of the Pinot Noir. Prestigious houses such as Krug, Bollinger and Louis Roederer source the Pinots of these villages. Which gives immense character and style to their blends. The Pinot Noirs are vinous with pepper, iron, mineral and gunpowder aromas sought after for many prestige cuvees. Henriet-Bazin use classic vinif cation in tank, no oak is utilized and malo-lactic fermentations are forbidden on all their cuvees.

RM or récoltant-manipulant. Driven by passion for their product, these producers bottle and sell their wines under their own labels. There is a potential for high quality combined with good value, and wines that might reflect the terroir of small plots of land rather than standardised blends. R stands for Récoltant ( the literal translation is ‘Harvester’) M stands for Manipulant ( literally ‘Handler’) These “grower” champagnes account for just under 3 percent of the total market.
